Pastor Charles teaching the children about Baptism.
The Rev. Dr. Charles Kathurima-Murithi
I joined the family of The First United Methodist Church Nebraska City, Nebraska as the senior pastor in July 2012.
Our lives are like a medley of many songs that have been sung into our lives (Psalm 96). My medley began in a little village of Meru, Kenya where we run to school. Lydia, my wife, and I were born in Meru, Kenya (East Africa) where we spend most of our adult life. I started my seminary training at St. Paul’s Theological College–Limuru, Kenya in 1984. After completing my seminary training I served several churches all in Nairobi, Kenya where I was ordained an elder of the Methodist Church in Kenya. My family and I moved to the United States of America in 1997 to attend Southern Methodist University–Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas for my graduate studies (Masters and Doctorate). I participated in a year’s long Clinical Pastoral Education Residency Program at the Methodist Hospitals of Dallas, Texas.
We moved to Nebraska when I received an appointment in the Nebraska Annual Conference in July of 2000 and was asked to serve at the then Way West Parish (Morrill, Henry/Lyman) churches in western Nebraska. I was appointed as an associate pastor of the Norfolk Parish, Nebraska in July of 2005. In 2010 I was appointed Senior Pastor at Alliance UMC of the Treat West District. In July of 2012 I was appointed Senior Pastor at First United Methodist Church Nebraska City, of the Missouri River District.
Lydia and I have two grown children, Glory Hughes and Joy Kathurima and granddaughters, Malaika, Marissa, and Makyla. We are true believers that God is good all the time.
